CISAN and OpenAIRE: creating synergies beyond borders
A new collaboration is starting between CISAN, the Center for Research on North America and the multi and interdisciplinary research Unit of Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico UNAM, one of the world’s largest public universities with more than 300,000 students, and OpenAIRE. The aim of this collaboration is to strengthen the integration and automated intercommunication between digital platforms in North America and Europe and become a leading platform for North America Studies which will facilitate communication among the community.
In 2018, CISAN developed MiCISAN,an institutional repository collecting research on North American research findings. With the present collaboration, we will enhance the integration, organization, protection and dissemination of the CISAN’s scientific products, following the OpenAIRE guidelinesandFAIR Principles. North American scholars, teachers, students, policy stakeholders, journalists and anyone interested in the validated information of the region will be able to find easy and directly the CISAN research outputs, enriching and updating their knowledge from very diverse perspectives and origins in a single portal: the OpenAIRE CONNECT Gateway.
Gathering all research outputs in one single access point is crucial. The Gateway on North America Studies will allow the provision of information collected by OpenAIRE, but also the possibility of projection and contribution to the strengthening of Red del Norteamericanistas (REDAN) in terms of developing a scientific worldwide community.
"The CISAN-OpenAIRE collaboration will make it possible to broaden the scope of the research that the UNAM's Center for Research on North America (CISAN) has developed throughout its 33 years of existence. Working with one of the largest collections of open academic records in the world will help us make the most of the potential that, in terms of academic dissemination, can be given to our research on essential topics for the study of North America in Social Sciences and the Humanities." Graciela Martínez-Zalce Sánchez, CISAN Director
"We are happy to provide our services to international colleagues and we are particularly honored for the trust they place in us. Based on the global outreach of theOpenAIRE Research Graph, the OpenAIRE Connect service will provide the means for the researchers of North American studies to connect, learn from each other and broaden their outreach. This collaboration strengthens our commitment to ensure our services are extended in terms of coverage, performance and functionality."Natalia Manola, OpenAIRE CEO
