dc.description.extractHuman mobility across the border has given rise to an intimate knowledge of the problems the other faces. Both U.S. Americans and Mexicans have a quite well-informed opinion of the other country, either because they know it firsthand, because they have acquaintances living on the other side of the border, or because of the enormous number of stories —some wrong, others exaggerated— circulating about each other in the media. The big question would be, then, whether Mexican and U.S. society can find common cause. To answer that, we have to think about what each country’s population’s biggest complaints are about the other. Undoubtedly, inequalities are a common denominator. p.46
