dc.description.extractThe world is experiencing an inflationary spiral in food prices. The explanation ranges from futures market speculation in food products, the ravages of climate change that have caused the loss of harvests in several regions of the world, to the covid-19 pandemic that affected global agricultural-food systems, and, recently, the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. All these circumstances have unleashed price hikes for agricultural inputs, raised food distribution costs, and caused an inflationary spiral in Mexico unlike any seen in the last twenty years. P.39
